One screw, one hopper, one gate. Tip in maize meal, cake, bran, minerals and premix; the vertical auger lifts the material from the cone and folds it back down until colour and texture are even. Add the self-priming hammer mill version and you grind and mix in a single step.
Shovelling premix into a pile gives some animals too much and others none — and the ones that get none are the ones you notice three weeks later. A mixer turns a recipe into something repeatable, which is the whole point of a recipe.
Add ingredients by weight, run 8–12 minutes, discharge. The next batch is the same feed, so growth and milk yield stop swinging.
When a vitamin or a medicated premix is evenly spread, you can use less of it and still hit the target. Uneven mixing is why some farms over-dose "to be safe".
The self-priming version mounts a hammer mill on the same frame: it sucks grain in, grinds it and drops it into the mixing chamber. No separate mill, no second operator.
One batch takes 8–12 minutes including loading and discharge, so a 500 kg machine realistically makes 2–2.5 tonnes in an eight-hour day. Buy for the daily need, not the maximum.
| Model | Batch capacity | Motor | Mixing time | Output per day* | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| VM-300 | 300 kg | 3 kW | 8–10 min | 1.5–2 t | Small pig or poultry unit |
| VM-500 MOST POPULAR | 500 kg | 3–4 kW | 8–12 min | 2–2.5 t | Most mixed farms |
| VM-1000 | 1,000 kg | 7.5 kW | 10–12 min | 3.5–4.5 t | Dairy, larger pig units, feed resale |
*Output per day assumes an eight-hour working day with one operator, including loading. Contact parts are carbon steel as standard; stainless is available for premix and medicated feed. Dimensions and packed volume are confirmed with the quotation.
A vertical screw mixes by lifting and folding. It is simple, cheap and it works — but it is not a ribbon mixer, and we will not pretend otherwise.
| Vertical (this page) | Horizontal ribbon | |
|---|---|---|
| Blend variation (CV) | ≈ 10% | ≤ 7% |
| Batch time | 8–12 min | 2–4 min |
| Residue between batches | Low, cone discharges well | Very low, full-width gate |
| Price for same capacity | Lower | Higher |
| Right for | Own stock | Bagged feed for sale |
If you sell bagged feed, the 10% figure becomes a complaint at the customer's farm. Ask us for the horizontal ribbon mixer data sheet instead — it costs more and it is the correct machine.
Same frame, two configurations. Choose by whether you already own a grinder.
You already have a hammer mill. Ground meal goes into the hopper by bag or by auger. Cheapest option and the easiest to ship.
The mill sits on the same base and sucks grain from the floor through a hose. One pass with one operator instead of two machines and two passes — but you lose the flexibility of grinding separately for different species.
Reaches from the cone to the top of the chamber, so nothing sits undisturbed at the bottom.
Gravity does the emptying. A slide gate at the low point discharges into bags or a barrow with almost no residue.
Wide enough for a 50 kg bag and low enough to load without a platform. Unbolts flat for container loading.
No gearbox. A worn belt is a market item, and the motor stays outside the dust stream.
Stands on a concrete pad or a truck bed. No foundation bolts, which is what makes single-unit export practical.
Loading order, mixing times for common rations, belt tension and bearing greasing.
8–12 minutes of mixing, plus 3–5 minutes to load and 2–3 minutes to discharge. That is why we quote 2–2.5 tonnes a day for the 500 kg model, not 30 batches. Feeding the hopper while the screw runs speeds things up but needs two people.
Up to roughly 15% added liquid, yes — but add it slowly while the screw runs, not all at once, or it balls up in the cone. Above that, a horizontal ribbon mixer with a liquid addition port handles it much better. Tell us your molasses rate before ordering.
Mix the medicated premix into a small quantity first (about 10% of the batch), then add that pre-blend to the full batch. This "dilution step" matters more than the machine, and it is what feed mills do. With that step a vertical mixer is adequate for on-farm medicated feed.
VM-300 and VM-500 run on 220 V single phase or 380 V three phase — ask for whichever you have. VM-1000 is three phase only. 440 V / 60 Hz is available to order.
Run 5–10 kg of bran or dry meal through it and discharge — that scours the cone and auger. Empty it completely before switching to a different species' ration, especially after medicated feed. The gate opens fully so a brush reaches the low point.
10–15 working days from deposit. The hopper unbolts and nests inside the frame, which keeps packed volume sensible for LCL. We confirm CBM and gross weight before you book freight.
Species, head count and whether you already own a grinder — those three answers decide the model and the price.
